Introduction
BabyCode ("we", "our", or "us") operates the Note Taker mobile application ("the App"). This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how it's used, and the choices you have. By using Note Taker, you agree to the practices described here.
Summary
Note Taker is a voice‑note app. Your voice notes are recorded and stored locally on your device — they are never uploaded to our servers. We use Google Sign‑In for account access and Firebase services for authentication, anonymous analytics and crash reporting.
Information We Collect
Account Information
When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from your Google account. This is used solely to authenticate you and to display your name inside the app.
Voice Notes (audio you record)
When you press and hold the mic button, the App records audio using the device microphone and saves the resulting .m4a file to the App's own private folder on your device (Android/data/<app>/files/notes). These files are not uploaded to BabyCode servers and are not shared with any third party. Only you can access them through the App.
Contact Names (optional)
If you choose to grant the optional Contacts permission, the App may read contact display names locally on your device to show friendlier labels next to recordings shared from the BabyCode workspace mode. This data is processed entirely on your device and never leaves it.
Folder You Pick (BabyCode workspace mode only)
If you are a verified BabyCode user and choose to enable the BabyCode workspace mode, the App uses Android's system folder picker (Storage Access Framework) to let you grant access to one folder. The App can then read audio files from that folder. It does not request broad storage access and cannot read any folder you didn't pick.
Diagnostic & Usage Data
We use Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous crash reports and aggregated usage statistics (such as device model, Android version and which screens were opened). This helps us fix bugs and improve the App. This data does not include your voice notes or their contents.
How We Use Your Information
- To authenticate you via Google Sign‑In and Firebase Authentication
- To enable the BabyCode workspace mode for verified users
- To display your name and profile inside the App
- To diagnose crashes and improve App stability
- To respond to support requests you send us
Permissions
The App requests the following Android permissions:
- RECORD_AUDIO — required to record voice notes when you press and hold the mic. Recording only happens while you are actively holding the button.
- READ_CONTACTS (optional) — used to display contact names inside the BabyCode workspace mode. The App works without it.
- INTERNET — used for Google Sign‑In, account verification and (in BabyCode workspace mode only) optional secure upload that you trigger manually.
The App does not request access to your call log, phone state, SMS, contacts list (beyond optional name lookup), location, photos, or background recording.
Data Storage & Sharing
Your voice notes are stored locally on your device in the App's private storage area. We do not upload your notes to our servers. We do not sell, trade, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing.
Sharing a note happens only when you tap the Share button — the file is then handed to whichever app you choose (e.g. WhatsApp, Email).
Third‑Party Services
The App uses the following third‑party services:
- Google Sign‑In — for user authentication
- Firebase Authentication — for managing your account session
- Firebase Crashlytics — for anonymous crash reporting
- Firebase Analytics — for understanding aggregated usage patterns
These services may collect data as described in their own privacy policies. See Google's Privacy Policy.
Data Retention & Deletion
Your voice notes stay on your device until you delete them from inside the App. You can delete a note with one tap. You can also uninstall the App, which removes all locally stored notes.
You can request deletion of your account at any time by emailing support@babycode.in. On deletion, your account information is removed from Firebase Authentication.
Children's Privacy
Note Taker is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
Security
We use industry‑standard security measures, including HTTPS/TLS for any network requests and Firebase's secured authentication. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Significant changes will be highlighted within the App when reasonably possible.
